Clément Canonne is a research fellow at the CNRS, part of the Analyse des Pratiques Musicales team at UMR 9912 “Sciences et Technologies de la Musique et du Son” (IRCAM-CNRS-Sorbonne University).
His research focuses mainly on the question of improvisation, both as a practice and as a paradigm. His recent work has been published in several international journals (Cognition, Empirical Musicology Review, Music Theory Online, Revue de Musicologie, Psychology of Music, Journal of New Music Research, etc.).
He is also interested in the philosophy of music: he edited a collective work Perspectives philosophiques sur les musiques actuelles (Delatour, 2017) and translated and introduced, in collaboration with Pierre Saint-Germier, a selection of Jerrold Levinson’s Essais de philosophie de la musique (Vrin, 2015).
