Marie-Pierre Ulloa



Marie-Pierre Ulloa is a faculty lecturer in French and Francophone Studies at Stanford University, faculty of the Taube Center for Jewish Studies, and the Mediterranean Studies Forum, and research affiliate with the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies. She teaches intellectual and cultural history of the Francophone World with a concentration on North Africa.

Her most recent publication: “Des Ballerines de Papicha à l’Envers des autres de Kaouther Adimi: veillée d’armes mascunine fémiline” in Expressions Maghrébines (2015).

She is the author of Francis Jeanson, a Dissident Intellectual from the French Resistance to the Algerian War (Stanford University Press, 2008).

Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française (2013).

She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from EHESS (thesis title: “From North Africa to California: migrant trajectories, narratives of integration”), a M.A in History and Political Science from Sciences Po Paris, and an Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma in History (summa cum laude) from Sciences Po Paris, where she wrote her dissertation on intellectual dissidence from World War II to post-Algerian War through the case study of French existentialist philosopher Francis Jeanson.
